It /should/ work.  There is a special "epson" backend
(/usr/lib/cups/backend/epson) provided by the cupsys-driver-gutenprint
package.

If you are wondering why it's part of the cupsys-driver-gutenprint
package, I'm not entirely sure myself, and neither are upstream.  The
main point of it is that is allows additional stuff the plain parallel
backend does not, such as ink level monitoring and head cleaning,
etc..  Quite why this means we provide it rather than cupsys, I don't
know.

It might also be a bug that will be fixed in 1.2.2, which should be
out any day now.  I did see at least one issue related to printer
selection which has been fixed.

I'll take a look at it, and see if it works with my C60.  Please could
you file a new bug against cupsys-driver-gutenprint for this issue?
It would help if you could set LogLevel to debug in cupsd.conf and
send the log of what happens.
