I put 1.2.0 into svn head and works quite well. (1.2rc3 -> 1.2.0 was
the first update I have ever seen that didn't introduce regressions,
yay!  :) )

Right, the client library API is compatible to 1.1. Upstream tested
mixing 1.1 clients and 1.2 servers, and vice versa.

No, KDE upstream is in pretty bad shape for cups 1.2. Since we use 1.2
in Ubuntu, we have some nasty hacks which make KDE printing work
reasonably with 1.2. Please contact Jonathan Riddell
<jriddell at ubuntu.com> for that.
