[Pkg-cups-devel] Cups as a normal user

Hello,

I use Cups together with FreeNX. FreeNX needs to start cupsd as a normal
user (not as user cupsys or as root).

With FreeNX you connect to a remote machine, but print to your printer
at home. This is done by a tunnel, and running cupsd on a high port, a
different port for every user. This is no problem because there is a
IPP_PORT environment variabele, and the applications are using it. So I
see only my own printers.

Problem is, that Cups 1.2 cannot be started as a normal user. So I need
Cups 1.1 and not Cups 1.2.

FreeNX is officially not in Debian at the moment. But it is a normal
program, there are official packages for Suse and Fedora, and I hope in
the future for Debian too. And I think there will come more programms
like FreeNX.

With regards,
Paul van der Vlis.

btw: I am not on this list, so please CC to me.
