[Pkg-cups-devel] Problem with "socket" URI on Debian cupsys

I'm attempting to install a networked HP printer on a Debian CUPS server.
It's a LaserJet P2015dn. Hopefully I'm down to the last problem. It
appears
that the DeviceURI should be "socket://192.168.x.x:9100" but I'm getting a
message that this is a Bad device-uri.

lpinfo -v produces the following output:

network beh
direct hp:/no_device_found
network http
network ipp
network lpd
direct parallel:/dev/lp0
direct canon:/dev/lp0
direct epson:/dev/lp0
file cups-pdf:/
network smb

I was expecting to see a line "network socket"

I have checked the directory /usr/lib/cups/backend-available and there is
a file "socket"

What do I need to do to cause CUPS to recognize the socket URI?

Thanks

Roger
