Package: cups
Severity: important
Version: 1.3.8-1lenny2
Hi,
I've been having some problems creating a printer using the web interface in
the above CUPS version. After some hunting, I've managed to find a very
nicely notated RHEL bug that describes the problem:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=453610
Basically, when you attempt to submit a largish request over SSL using some
browsers (I've tested with FF3 and Epiphany 2.22.3, and both exhibit the
symptoms) the connection will hang, because CUPS has a bug in it's event
loop that gets in the way of the SSL connection. "Largish requests" include
the POSTs to create a new printer, amongst other things (if you submit print
jobs over SSL, this bug could bite, depending on the client's SSL library).
The above bug points to a fix:
http://cups.org/str.php?L2892
I've verified that the last patch in that ticket (str2892-1.3.patch) applies
cleanly and fixes the problem on my local amd64 system.
Please consider including this patch in lenny; it is practically impossible
to create a printer as it stands at the moment.
Thanks,
- Matt
