Package: cups
Version: 1.4.2-5
Severity: important
Tags: patch
Im running a dell network printer (3100cn) since four years. After an upgrade performed in march or so the printing via cups hasn't worked any more. I've deleted the printer and installed it again. It was found without any hint of me but could not be saved. Some hours of nice googled lecture later I recognized, that the necessary backend binary "socket" was contained in backend-available but not in backend.
I copied the "socket" binary to backend, and cups was able to store the configuration and the printer was usable as before.
The problem is, that the manually copied binary is deleted every time when cups is upgraded.
I tried to install the cups-package from scatch, to reconfigure cups but it didn't changed this odd behavior.
