Well, purge kills them.  As in if you:

1. have 2.1 installed
2. install 2.2 -> 2.1 gets "removed"
3. purge 2.1 -> overriges get lost.

Other than specifically fixing the postrm packages of 2.1 and 2.2 to be
aware of each other, I don't know how to fix this.
