Thanks for your report! I can't reproduce this bug, so we need some more
information to understand what's going on.

Could you send the file /etc/default/saslauthd to this bug, so we can
check it?

Also, please send the output of
dpkg-statoverride --list /var/run/saslauthd

Finally, please send the file /etc/init.d/saslauthd to this bug.
