Well, db2 -> db4.x was a big leap (skipping db3).

Well, they could happen in the future, but it seems that the database
format is quite stable for some time (years) now.

If such change will happen, I will (in case I am still Berkeley DB
maintainer) coordinate the transition (probably uploading to
experimental, etc...)

No problem, happy to help, it will make the Berkeley DB maintenance
(e.g. my work) less painful.
