Maybe the problem is this: cairo-libraries still haven't been compiled
against latest directfb-librararies. There are many packages that
depend on them somehow. It is not enough, if MOST packages are
compiled against the latest directfb. Problem may go away after ALL of
them are compiled.

On the other hand, few weeks ago I installed Debian GNU/Linux to my
Asus EeePC 900 -nettop and then I let it upgrade itself to unstable
version. After that procedure installation of mplayer to that machine
went without problems.

When I started hacking with this problem, I really had mixed
stable/testing/unstable-system, but I changed /etc/apt/preferences
-file so that it preferred packages of unstable and then I let whole
system to upgrade itself to unstable. It did not help to original
problem. Commands I used were roughly these:

aptitude -Z -V -f -D -v -v -v -v -v update
aptitude -Z -V -f -D -v -v -v -v -v --without-recommends dist-upgrade

But I haven't heard about that "aptitude full-upgrade". I tried it,
but it did not help immediately, but after some hacking with other
aptitude-commands I was able to install version
2:1.0~rc3+svn20100502-3 of mplayer. Unfortunately I did not remember
to copy-paste all commands and output to this E-Mail. BTW that version
of mplayer do not run at all:

% mplayer -vo help
mplayer: relocation error: mplayer: symbol codec_wav_tags, version LIBAVFORMAT_52 not defined in file libavformat.so.52 with link time reference
[1] 23735 exit 127 mplayer -vo help
