Well, gerbv isn't already a pkg-electronics-devel, the maintainer is still 
Hamish, so you/we really ought to hear from him first, as to whether or not 
he wants it group maintained.

But as far as transitioning from 1.x, I haven't used gerbv for work in a 
while so I hand't seen 2.x until now. It looks *much* improved over the 1.x 
series, and a light look doesn't reveal any feature regressions. So at 
least on this front, I'd say it should be upgraded one way or another.
