Hi,

I just created the Electronics team, and I am inviting you to join it.

The idea is to create a PPA with a combination of Electronics
software, and as a discussion group (over a mailing list) that would
be able to prepare bug reports. I do not know about you but I do not
have many contacts yet on Launchpad.

Software like:
- geda
- verilog, VHDL simulators (iverilog, ghdl)
- waveform viewers
- micro-controller development tools (UrJTAG, OpenOCD)
- maybe OpenRISC cross-compiler
- not very probable, some FPGA vendors might be ready to accept some
unofficial ports of their tools
- with a lot of work, ready to go FPGA development tools based on
OpenCores.org ...
- ok enough dreaming

So I would like you to join the team (I will figure out how to do it)
and copy your best packages into the new team ppa. Join the
discussions as you wish.

Regars,
Iztok Jeras

OK now that the formalities are over, some work plans, read as you wish.

My contribution would be packages for newer versions of Icarus
Verilog, you can find them on my PPA. I am in contact with Icarus
developers, and I did exchange some emails with the Debian Electronics
team.

The plan for Icarus Verilog would be as follows:
1) discuss change of name with Debian team (their idea!) from the too
generic "verilog" for version 8.x to the one used by the icarus team
"iverilog" for version 9.x at the same time I will discuss with the
Icarus team how to install two version side by side (they seem to
suggest this they would like to keep a compatible old branch)
2) get version 9.1 into Debian sid, this should be enough to get v9.1
into Karmic
3) the Icarus team is talking about version 9.1 in a couple of months,
I will put it on my ppa
4) then we can ask for its integration into Karmic

Regards,
Iztok Jeras
