We're currently focusing on non-wishlist items that are bigger issues (mostly
init and security concerns, with some house cleaning). That being said, I'll
upgrade the split in my TODO list now that it's blocking other work.

In addition, I'm currently of the mind that we should release the package split
without any other changes to the package to increase clarity for dependents and
decrease the chance of problems. Let me know if you feel/think differently.

The short answer for me is "probably". Most of this release management stuff
will be sorted in my mind after this thread, which is either about to peter out
or spark up: http://lists.debian.org/debian-release/2010/05/msg00123.html. One
reason that I don't want to introduce the split too early is that it certainly
wouldn't be released into stable per that thread thereby blocking everything
after it too, and I'd like to get as much as possible into stable. (That is, if
"possible" is even, er, possible.)

VERY much appreciated! There's nothing on the TODO list that I know of that
would speed things up, but that could change if things start to go weird when
we try the split (optimistic that that won't happen).

And thanks for reporting.

Context is always helpful.

I'll post back to this ticket with any updates as they happen, and cross post
to #553698 depending on relevancy.
