My mail forwarder for sending mail uses Kerberos GSSAPI authentication, and
permits no relays at all. This works just fine with, for example, the msmtp
mail sending program.
But evolution, no workie. When I send a message, I get a popup "Error while
performing operation" with the legend:
AUTH command failed: Syntax error, command unrecognized
In the Account Editor section of the Preferences, under the Sending Email tab:
Server Type SMTP
Server: aquinas.becket.net
Server requires authentication: yes
Use Secure Connection: No encryption
Type: GSSAPI
Username: tb
I note that evolution is not depending on sasl at all. Presumably this is
part of the problem? Nor is it depending on any krb libraries.
An examination of the build log for powerpc (and presumably the same
is elsewhere) is that the build is installing krb and sasl libraries,
and configure checks for them, but they are never used in the link.
