Hiya Sam.

Are you sure this file just isn't a leftover from before the
gnome-keyring integration?

I just checked and still had ~/.gnome2_private/Evolution in my home-dir,
but I moved it away and it hasn't been recreated since. 

All my passwords are also stored in the default keyring 'login'.
