Package: exim4
Version: 4.34-9
Severity: normal

Hi,

I have an internal network device, which is configured with a static
ip of 192.168.2.2. If I use "auto eth0" in the interfaces file,
activating the device at boot, exim4 takes forever to start. I did not
check the exact time, but its about:

regenerate config with upex4conf: more than 1 minute
checking if config is valid: about the same
starting exim4 with start_exim: about a minute.

I disabled isconfigvalid as the config doesn't change. I removed
everything from upex4conf except
/usr/sbin/update/exim4.conf

This "small startup script" takes a little bit less time, but still it
needs more time than any other boot process (eg apache, zope,
postgres...).

On the other hand, exim4 is there in just a few seconds if there is no
eth0 running at bootup.

Also having ethX or wlanY (X>0, Y>=0) up at boot time is not a
problem.

Andreas

Sorry, I thought I'd had a look at that already. Anyway, adding the
eth0-IP with a hostname to /etc/hosts seems to work too (I'm not sure,
I did not pay much attention to the last boot).

Anyway, I'm (hopefully) closing the bug, as the solution is obvious.

Thanks,
Andreas
