I think this might be an issue that upstream wants to hear your
reasoning. In my experience it is better if the original bug reporter
takes this upstream instead of relying on the Debian maintainer to
relay messages. If you do so, please bring a reference to the upstream
discussion here so that the two issues can be linked.
