Just set primary_hostname:

    primary_hostname = puddle.purple.com

If you're using the minimaldns setup, you probably also should comment
out the 'DEBCONF_hardcode_primary_hostname_DEBCONF' line in
/etc/exim4/conf.d/main/02_exim4-config_options.
