Hello Gavin,

are you using split configuration at all? "/etc/init.d/exim4 reload" after
changing exim's configuration should be enough.

I would also suggest changing the MAILDIR_HOME_MAILDIR_LOCATION
macro-definition (i.e. adding one) instead of modifying the transport,
in /etc/exim4/exim4.conf.localmacros (unsplit) or
/etc/exim4/conf.d/main/000_localmacros (split).
