interest to many of us. There is an update of the NIFTI standard in the
works that aims to make the format fit for today's demands. Please see

The NIfTI committee are proposing the creation of a NIfTI-2 format
that is a very simple extension of the current NIfTI-1 format, but
updated to allow 64-bit storage and addressing for large images and
matrices.
