Hm I think this should help, could you please verify it?<br>

Go to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf and comment out the Textured2D option (like "Option "Textured2D" "True"").<br>

I've noticed that with this version backtrace is printed in log file only with fglrx kernel module loaded, without kernel module no backtrace but still blank screen.<br>
