The actual firebird version 1.0.2 has a bug with the security database
which has been fixed by the firebird people on January 30.
Here's the text on www.ibphoenix.com:

Refresh of the Firebird V1.02 Linux builds. This refresh of the builds fixes a known bug that was causing problems when trying to access the security database using the services api. You can download the new version now.

I think it should not be difficult to integrate the fixes in the actual deb
package.
