[Pkg-fonts-devel] Dropping defoma use in TTF/OTF font packages?

See this wiki page for the procedure I planned to do for the removal:

http://wiki.debian.org/OldPkgRemovals#defoma

Currently stalled on migrating all the defoma backends to fontconfig.

Joss, one of those backends is pango, which you co-maintain. If you
could drop that backend soon it would be great.

After that packages containing defoma hints can convert them to
fontconfig snippets, most packages will just be able to drop the hints
though. The conversion can be easily done by looking at what defoma
generates for the package in /var/lib/defoma/fontconfig....

After the hints are migrated and backends migrate to fontconfig or get
other solutions (such as the xorg case), then the fontconfig defoma
backend can be dropped.

After that defoma can be removed from the archive and deprecated in
the documentation and a warning added to lintian.

I'm unlikely to have time to push the removal through any time soon,
I'd be very grateful for other folks to take it up.
