I have been unable to reproduce this bug in a clean chroot, emulating as
closely as possible the build operations shown in the log.  The error
message originates from fontforge, which does some string manipulation of
the filename in order to translate it to the correct encoding before trying
to open it.  What is the locale used when this error occurs?
