 No, you don't need to kick it, just putting fonts into /usr/share/fonts/{truetype,opentype}
 is enough.

 defoma is legacy and now we are trying to remove it for Wheezy.
 In the past, we used defoma, now it is called for removing old defoma hints
 if it exists in maintainer scripts.

 So forget about defoma for new packaging.
