I 101% follow Daniel on this: if rebuilding the from from source does
not preserve it, then the font or the toolchain has a problem. So, the
problem must be fixed.

This is, imho, also what free software is about, and particularly in
Debian where we put more value in the *quality* of the work we're
doing than the visible result (well, sometimes, users don't get
this...and, as a user myself...and quite a large one...I can
understand them...while still sticking with the principles I adhered
to when I joined Debian).

This is about the same reason that motivates full archive rebuilds
that often unveil problems that would have been ignored otherwise. The
result for the end user is most of the time NULL.....but the quality
improvement that it generates does benefit all users in the long term.

So, really, I don't see why we shouldn't rebuild fonts from source
when source is available.
