Fabian I use svn-inject and svn-buildpackage from what I noted if you
use svn-inject to upload the package lets say to pkg-fonts repository
from a directory by name font-package then once svn-inject finishes
you will find following directory structure

font-package
|_ fonts-foundry-name-version
| |_ trunk
| |_ tags
| |_ branches
| |_ tarballs
| |_ build-area
|
|_ tarballs
      |
    fonts-foundery-name-version.orig.tar.bz2

svn-buildpackage expects the orig.tar.bz2 inside tarballs folder under
fonts-foundry-name-version. So once svn-inject finishes copy the
external tarballs folder to one under the fonts-foundery-name-version
and svn-buildpackage works fine.

If you didn't use svn-inject then you may need to create the
orig.tar.bz2 yourself and place it under tarballs folder.

Well this is what I always do when I use svn-inject and
svn-buildpackage, there may be a better way to do it :) Here is a nice
tutorial which I followed to learn about svn-buildpackage
http://workaround.org/debian-subversion-pbuilder

Thanks and Regards
