IMHO the naming question is also linked to GNOME's policy around
for-profits holding the copyright wrt. to future improvements to the
(font) software.

I'd recommend talking to Dave Neary and looking at the following to get
this right: http://live.gnome.org/CopyrightAssignment

How will GNOME handle branches created by external contributors?
non-affiliated contributors? other companies? and merges to master of
these contributions? When decided this should probably go into the
documentation/FONTLOG/wiki page of the font project.
