Only in gedit but still the behaviour is not the same as one you
mentioned.

But in case of other fonts it bar goes on top of

I checked with DejaVu and FreeMono and it indeed renders as expected but
behaviour is bit different in case of Droid Sans Mono but totally wrong
in bitstream and liberation and Inconsolata too!

I'm also not sure because Droid Sans Mono renders perfectly fine in
Konsole and others don't so even I'm not sure what is wrong!
