indeed, this font (and also the other fonts from the same authors) look
brilliant!

I cannot speak for the team, of course, and I acknowledge that others
in the team have a different opinion on this.

However, since there exists no canonical source format for fonts, the
choice of source format is merely a matter of choice of editor. Since
all font formats, even binary ones like TTF or OTF, are editable with
the same editors, I'd say it is alright to distribute them if they are
upstream's prefered form for modification. In the end, we cannot tell
upstream what format to use just as we cannot tell them to use vim or
emacs for code, either.

Short versiob: If upstream preferes to release fonts in a specific
formta and the license permits distribution in this format, I don't see
a reason not to package these fonts.
