AFAIR, firefox did run during the first upgrade. Then I restarted firefox to be
sure. Then downgraded fonts-liberation to 1.07.4-1 and restarted firefox again
to confirm it works with that older version. After the downgrade of the harfbuzz
packages and the upgrade of fonts-liberation, again I restarted firefox. After
upgrading the harfbuzz packages again, I restarted firefox another time.

The X session is running since before the first upgrade of fonts-liberation.

Yes, for me the issue is resolved.
