This is weird. Fontforge depends on libgif7 and hence it does not need
libgif.so.4 but needs libgif.so.7, below is ldd output of fontforge

> % ldd /usr/bin/fontforge | grep libgif
>        libgif.so.7 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgif.so.7 (0xf68f8000)

I can not reproduce this issue and it also seems something is wrong in
your system, for now I've reduced severity to important. Can you please
check your system and provide more information on this?.
