Yes we would be happy to get help :-). You would need to join Debian
Fonts team on Alioth ¹ and then upload your SSH key there. After that
you can clone the source of fonts-roboto package with following command

    git clone \
        git+ssh://anonscm.debian.org/git/pkg-fonts/fonts-roboto.git

Also subscribe to pkg-fonts mailing list at ².

Feel free to look at code and do required work for updating the package,
if in doubt write to us on pkg-fonts-devel mailing list.
