Are you using ogpsd (fso-framework) or gpsd? I'm using the latter and
gps usually works. Some ideas:
/etc/frameworkd.conf:
[ogpsd]
disable = 0
deanna:~# dpkg -l gpsd
[..]
ii gpsd 2.90.1~svn6819-1+b1 Global Positioning System - daemon
Is the gps chip turned on?
deanna:~# om gps power
1
("om gps power 1" to turn it on)
