I think I just isolated the reason for that "again" (I've tried
numerous times in recent weeks, and it failed mysteriously every time).
It seems the install.sh calculates a partition size in cylinders, and
passes that number to fdisk; but fdisk expects sizes in sectors, so the
number doesn't make much sense. As a result, my 4 GB card was formatted
with one partition (with QI=true), and that partition was 64 MB. Which
wasn't enough for the "install.sh debian" part to complete.
I ended up doing the partition by hand, the rest is currently running.
Hopefully someone will commit a fix to the official install.sh :-)
Roland.
