Thanks for testing. I have qi and separate /boot partition:

qi      20100107-1
linux-base      3.3

$ sudo file -sL /dev/mmcblk0*
/dev/mmcblk0:   x86 boot sector; partition 1: ID=0x83, starthead 1, startsector 52, 33020 sectors; partition 2: ID=0x83, starthead 0, startsector 33072, 7920744 sectors, code offset 0x0
/dev/mmcblk0p1: Linux rev 1.0 ext2 filesystem data, UUID=c8e54a43-2b8e-4961-a581-b38c757f5359
/dev/mmcblk0p2: Linux rev 1.0 ext3 filesystem data, UUID=33be1de7-c16f-4c78-b089-2fb931fd4ede, volume name "openmoko" (needs journal recovery) (large files)

$ ls -l /boot/uImage-GTA02.bin
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 Nov  3 13:27 /boot/uImage-GTA02.bin -> uImage-2.6.39-gta02-gta02.bin
$ md5sum /boot/uImage-2.6.39-gta02-gta02.bin
d9b912cbae116289787ade45467bfdd6  /boot/uImage-2.6.39-gta02-gta02.bin
$ cat /boot/append-GTA02
rootdelay=1 panic=20 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 loglevel=8

I uploaded full dmesg to

http://lindi.iki.fi/lindi/openmoko/linux-2.6-gta02/dmesg-1.txt

> Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(179,1)

179,1 is /dev/mmcblk0p1. This sounds like it is not detecting the SD
card. Weird, we should have identical SD card iirc. With

http://lindi.iki.fi/lindi/openmoko/collect_sd_card_information.sh

I see

I bought this Transcend 8GB MicroSDHC from verkkokauppa.com just last
month.

Can you try rootdelay=10 or something even longer?
