Alright, upstream has responded; I guess that's what I get for being impatient
with them.

Hello,

Let me say that it is great that you are interested in building a binary
package for Debian and that I´m willing to collaborate on everything I can.

I´m not en expert Linux user, in fact I don´t have an installed Linux
distribution in my machine right now, but as far as I know people have
been compiling and running Glest on Linux without much trouble just by
using the scripts in the source package. I don´t know how Matze (the
Linux port author) fixed the problems with the text file format.

What I don´t want to do is to maintain two versions of the source code,
now we just zip the contents of the CVS and this is our source package.
This makes it very easy to maintain.

I would like to hear Matze´s opinion here, I hope he replies to this
mail, if not we will look for another solution, because it would be
great to see Glest as a part of Debian.

Regards.

Martiño.

So upstream doesn't want to deal with having two source packages, which is
quite sensible. That makes Bas' solution the best of those proposed, so I
told upstream as such:

"""
Alright, that's completely understandable. In fact, some of the Games team
members would rather avoid this as well. We're discussing an alternate
solution that will allow us to use your source package without making any
modifications to it directly; since you don't want to maintain separate
source releases, we'll almost certainly go with this or a similar solution.

Unless your team comes up with a solution that you'd prefer, we'll likely go
with our new way, and you shouldn't have to worry about anything.

Thanks!
"""

I'll keep the list updated about any responses I receive; other than that, the
team should be able to start packaging Glest now :- )

On a side note, I'm sending this mail via my university's SMTP server, so
hopefully everyone will receive only one copy. If you get more than one,
please let me know and I'll start investigating my mail client configuration,
I guess.
