[Pkg-games-devel] I'd like to join

Hi,
when David Nusinow mentioned a Debian Games group on debian-devel some
time ago it seemed like a very worthwhile effort and I was about to
start the same, but lacked the time. So I'm very glad this is happening
and I'd like to help. Please add me to the Alioth project page, my user
name is "jmm-guest". (I'm a DD, but too many scripts depend on my old
-guest user name and I'm too lazy to fix them)

I'm maintaining prboom, freedoom and lincity-ng and I'm currently
preparing sponsorships for quake3 and a generic doom-data wad installer,
for which I'll ask the two sponsered maintainers if they're interested
in joining as well.

Beside the points already mentioned in the debian-devel announcement
I think these points are wortwhile as well:

- Collaborative maintenance of common infrastructure libs (e.g. SDL has been
NMUed four times in a row so far, newer games start to use squirrel for level
scripting, etc) seems useful as well
- Collaborative initial packaging of huge new games (e.g. different single
maintainers have tried to package the very well-made GPLed Nexuiz first-person
shooter, but there still hasn't been an outcome, because it's quite a of
  chunk of work)
- Games have common licensing problems (there are many good games available, which's
maintainers don't have much clue about licensing, for those cases where the
maintainers cannot be persuaded we could at least maintain a Wiki page of games
known to be not-packagable). pkg-games group could also work on replacing non-free
bits with DFSG-free content. I have a list of game authors I've already contacted
for freeness clarification, I'll need to dig it up.

Cheers,
        Moritz
