Bug#440897: instead of music/sound I get static noise

Highly probable. Reproducible here with ppc as well.

I can hear/understand something vaguely ressembling (behind the noise)
menu/*.ogg sounds when switching menu items on the startup screen.

Unsure I'll be able to test it much more since it is eating up all RAM
and SWAP here.
