Haven't tested with an runnign GNOME system, but on my xfce system
neverball just starts fine.

Hmm... not even purging libartsc0 (pulled in by audacious) changed that:

ls: .kde: No such file or directory

No, haven't got that.  Still works.

Sorry, can't reproduce this bug, but I was using 1.4.0-4.  Perhaps that
problem got solved somehow in the meantime?  Would it be possible for
you to check, if the problems still exists in lenny? (Can't check the
stable version myself right now.)
