How to unpack sources from MESS ?

What is the proper way to add the mess sources according to the package
rules ?

If I understand right, after calling get-org-source, I have to unpack
mame_0.142.orig-mess.tar.bz2 in my mame folder and rename the resulting
mess-0.142 to mess ?
