why isn't liballegro being maintained by the pkg-games-devel team ?

Hi all,
After filing the bug about open-invaders I decided to check the
allegro version in Debian . I dunno if its allegro alone which does it
or the allegro sprite editor as well which is not in debian but its
sad to see liballegro being so old in Debian and not maintained.

Please see http://alleg.sourceforge.net/changes.html and see the
version of liballegro in Debian :-

$ apt-show-versions -a liballegro4.2
liballegro4.2 2:4.2.2-3 install ok installed
liballegro4.2 2:4.2.2-2.2+b1 stable ftp.au.debian.org
liballegro4.2 2:4.2.2-3 testing ftp.au.debian.org
liballegro4.2 2:4.2.2-3 unstable ftp.au.debian.org
liballegro4.2/testing uptodate 2:4.2.2-3

I also tried to see if there are any versions of allegro in debian but
came up for everything is allegro 4.2

$ aptitude search allegro
p allegro-demo
  - cool game, demonstrating power of the Allegro library
p allegro-demo-data

p allegro-examples
  - example programs and demo tools for the Allegro library

p liballegro-doc

v liballegro3.9.37-dev
  -
i A liballegro4.2

development
p liballegro4.2-dev
  - development files for the Allegro library
p liballegro4.2-plugin-arts
  - aRts audio plugin for the Allegro library
p liballegro4.2-plugin-esd
  - esd audio plugin for the Allegro library
i A liballegro4.2-plugin-jack
  - JACK audio plugin for the Allegro library
p libguichan-allegro-0.8.1-1
  - small, efficient C++ GUI library (allegro integration)

The readme tells which softwares are linked with each other.

 /usr/share/doc/liballegro4.2$ cat README.Debian

As far as ase is concerned, here's a wishlist bug filled by somebody
about a year back for that.

Looking forward for some clarity on the same.
