Package: aseprite
Version: 0.9.5-2ubuntu2
Severity: wishlist

Hi there Dear Maintainer(s),

the aseprite package is built using the allegro library available in the
system, instead of the one patched by the authors
<https://github.com/aseprite/aseprite/tree/master/src/allegro#readme>. The main
advantage of the modified library is allowing to maximize and resize the
program while running. Also in that version unused parts are not included and
some features were backported to Windows.

I didn't know how to classify this report, either wishlist or normal: aseprite
can be used normally, but not being able to resize the window with the program
running is limiting to its use. Unlike a game, a "normal" or creative
application should be resizable to allow its allocated space to change.

There are alternatives and ways around that: the program can be launched with
the desired dimensions, e.g., aseprite -resolution 700x500 , and will retain
that size between executions, as described on the man page and reported here
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/getdeb.net/+bug/1193694>, or each person who wants
the resize function can compile the program him/herself.

There is probably some good reasons for not doing this, not requiring 2 copies
of the same library and that this application can benefit from upgrades and
security fixes to the shared allegro library.

Still, I think this could be at least reconsidered to enhance its usability.

Cheers
