Package: bsdgames
Version: 2.17-22+b1
Severity: minor

The ‘adventure(6)’ program is understood to refer to the Crowther and
Woods program, Colossal Cave Adventure.

There are multiple implementations of this program available, with
interesting differences. Each is an implementation of essentially the
same game with some different features.

The program ‘adventure’ installed by ‘bsdgames’ is one of these.

There are other implementations of Colossal Cave Adventure, and I
would like to see them also in Debian. That is the motivation for this
bug report.

Please use the “alternatives” system to permit other packages to
install the program file (‘/usr/games/adventure’) and manual page
(‘/usr/share/man/man6/adventure.6’).

I intend to package at least one (Bug#743020) which uses a version of
the game content closer to the original. I would suggest that package
install its program as ‘/usr/games/colossal-cave-adventure’, and BSD's
dervied version be renamed ‘/usr/games/bsd-adventure’.

Then the alternatives should be prioritised by the administrator's
likely intention if multiple packages are installed simultaneously.

I suggest that installing both ‘python-adventure’ and ‘bsdgames’ would
imply the intention to prefer the Adventure-specific package's
implementation, so:

* bsdgames: install ‘adventure’ with Priority 50
* python-adventure: install ‘adventure’ with Priority 70
