I'm not sure if the majority of players need this option. We already
support the sqlite database which is totally sufficient for almost
everyone. In contrast to the minetest game where postgresql is one of
the recommended databases, because it really boosts performance, the
freeciv server works perfectly fine with sqlite and even this option was
only enabled in the last release cycle. Before that the freeciv-server
didn't support a database because it is a feature which is rarely needed.

My main concern is that --enable-fcdb=mysql will pull in another
dependency which the majority of users simply don't need. Please note
that the server is even installed on normal desktop installations. Thus
I'm inclined to mark this bug as wontfix.
