Paul, since I removed Pulse the problem went away. I'm running Kubuntu
Karmic and had to jerk out Phonon as much as I could without some
dependency ripping out my desktop. I installed the Jaunty version of
alsa-utils in order for the "default soundcard" app to work. I can pick
and choose with audio device to use. I'm happy with running just Alsa. I
wish there was a way to pick and choose which sound platform to use.
Thanks for all your efforts! Ric

Binary package hint: warzone2100
wayward4now at iam:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10
Warzone2100 ver. 2.1.3-1
After a few minutes of play, the sound starts stuttering badly. Running warzone2100 from command line I get these messages
wayward4now at iam:~$ warzone2100
error : [rebuildSearchPath] Failed to remove path /usr/data/ again, because of No such entry in search path

I hope this is enough to find the problem. Saeurbraten does the same thing.
