The issue has changed in the last few days. Instead of always being
dark, it is now sometimes dark and sometimes at full brightness. The
unexpected behaviour of the brightness level not changing immediately,
is still present.

Regulating image brightness from System > Display > Brightness (in-game settings) does not have any effect.
