Yes this is fixed by a backport or a PPA. But it requires additional action (adding a PPA or a backport) by the user so could you tell me how am I wrong?
This is because of a conflict between PokerTH's  versionning and ubuntus update policy.

Bug description:
  It's not possible to launch or join an online game. There appears a
  message about a newer version (0.9 ist the actual one) available and
  prevents online gaming.
