After discussing it upstream, we are now able to specify the backup 
location during configure time (which I intend to set to /var/backups).  
This change is part of 2.11.4 which was released today.

Unfortunately I cannot upload yet because a Haskell package transition 
is underway and building Ganeti in sid doesn't currently work.
