[pkg-ggz-maintainers] Fwd: [ggz-announce] GGZ Gaming Zone 0.0.14 Release

Not sure if anybody here is subscribed to ggz-announce.
From a packager's perspective, 0.0.14 should allow the python and java 
packages to be added.

There's now also an interesting trigger for postgresql which will facilitate 
integration with other databases such as the community forums. However, as 
much as I try to avoid coding things which others did already, I'm all but 
happy with the current forum software (not just phpBB but all of them), and 
will likely include a small forum without any user management capabilities 
into ggzcommunity. Users would be handled centrally through the GGZ database.
The database might still be off-host for performance reasons, for which the 
trigger or any replication mechanism could be useful. (Considering that the 
peer might as well run mysql, and that in addition to the forums we also want 
to offload the statistics database since we've got way too many users for one 
host already.)

As I'm quite exhausted from rolling the release and all, I simply expect 
others on this list to jump on it now :-)

This release was marked by a tremendous growth in efforts, as can be seen in
the recent spike in SVN activity:

We also gained hundreds of users in our online community, especially cards
players. We'd very much appreciate a better server and supportive developers
who will be able to accomodate the needs of thousands of players on GGZ in
the near future. Free Software online gaming is here today, it just needs
some more hugs from the world at large!

GGZ will now focus on stability with continuing small changes on the 0.0.14
branch, and work towards its GGZ 1.0 goals on the mainline.
